Underground and Buried Drain Lines in Columbus, Ohio

This is the part of your gutter system nobody can see, which is exactly why it gets ignored until it becomes expensive. If your downspout empties into the ground instead of onto a splash block, you have a buried line, and it can clog just like the gutter above it.

Where a standard cleaning stops

A standard gutter cleaning confirms water runs through your downspouts and exits at the visible bottom outlets. That is the honest boundary of the service, and we will always show you the flow. Anything past that outlet is separate work with its own quote. Separate does not mean somebody else. It means a different job, priced on its own.

How to tell the buried line is the problem

Your gutters can be spotless and your water can still have nowhere to go. These are the tells.

  • Water pooling around the downspout base during a normal rain.
  • Water backing up out of the top of the downspout instead of draining.
  • A gurgling sound at the outlet while it rains.
  • Soggy ground or sinking mulch in one spot that never dries out.
  • A basement or crawlspace that only gets damp after heavy rain.

If you have clean gutters and any of these, the line underneath is the suspect.

Why it gets bad quietly

Buried lines pack with the same fine grit, shingle debris, and pine needles the gutters catch, and nothing about it is visible from the yard. By the time it shows up as water in a basement, the water has usually been going somewhere it should not for a while. Gutter guards can make this worse, not better, because fine debris still gets through and there is no monthly cleaning forcing anyone to look.

How we handle it

Tell us what you are seeing when you reach out, especially if you have already had the gutters cleaned. If we are already on your property for a cleaning, the owner will look at it while he is there. If it turns out to be the buried line, you get a quote for that work on its own, and the owner is on the job from start to finish. The number we give you is the number you pay.

When the answer is that you do not need us

Sometimes the fix is a splash block and a regrade, not an excavation. Sometimes the downspout simply came apart at the elbow. We will tell you that, because selling somebody a buried line job they do not need is a great way to never work in their neighborhood again.
